WHAT WE DO

With extensive macro and micro experience in local and regional economic development and tourism, the Cranleigh team brings both sector-specific and strategic level expertise in generating and maximising economic growth and tourism opportunities. Cranleigh has undertaken numerous strategic and economic analyses plus performance studies for many councils and other industries, including private clients in the property, manufacturing and computer sectors as well as a wide range of tourism bodies.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR OUR CLIENTS

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

  • Developed a targeted five year economic development plan for Rodney District Council, including initiatives to take advantage of 2011 Rugby World Cup.
  • Advised Auckland City Council on developing an "Invest Auckland" policy and programme, designed  to enable the council to positively engage with key organisations to retain existing and attract new businesses, using a package of financial and non-financial incentives. 

ENTERPRISE BOARDS

  • Advised Waikato Economic Development Board on becoming established as an effective Regional Economic Development Agency to identify regional economic opportunities, establish business clusters and attract foreign and domestic investment.
  • Worked with Enterprise Franklin Development Trust to determine the attractiveness of the business case to develop an automotive industry cluster. 

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

  • Advised Rodney Economic Development Trust on the feasibility of establishing a regionally-linked aquaculture industry cluster connecting local industry with research expertise, processing and export capability.
  • Prepared for Northland Regional Council a high level business case for the Titan fibre optic backbone network, including an exacting analysis of the economic implications of the network for the wider region. 

PRIVATE SECTOR

  • Completed an industry review of the fibre-based packaging industry for the New Zealand Paperboard and Packaging Association and developed a strategic plan to improve the national profile and effectiveness of the association. This involved consulting with a wide range of government and industry participants.
  • Researched and undertook a feasibility study for establishing a new luxury Taupo resort for a US investor. 

TOURISM

  • Undertook a study on the type of maritime events facility that should be created within Auckland's Viaduct Basin/Western Reclamation area as part of the city's tourism strategy.
  • Advised Auckland City Council on the development of proposed themed precincts and facilitated the development of the Knowledge Quarter with Auckland and AUT Universities, including development of tourism attractions and walkways. 

TOURISM

  • Reviewed the role of Tourism Auckland for the Auckland City Council, including its current role, funding, governance arrangements and explored alternative models used by local bodies locally and internationally. This resulted in an assessment of the overall effectiveness of current arrangements, recommendations for improvements and methodologies for on-going performance measurement.
